Graduated from the Law School of the National Law University of Rio de Janeiro, he was renowned for participating in various arbitration institutions worldwide, with international publications including in the Revue de Droit des Affaires Internationales and the Journal of International Arbitration. In 1995, he became the first Brazilian lawyer accepted to the Council of the ICCA, where his participation was fundamental for the proliferation of the arbitration institute in Brazil. He held the title of Chevalier de l’Ordre du Merite, awarded by French President Jacques René Chirac in recognition of his services to French companies, and remained for 9 years as the Brazilian representative at the International Court of Arbitration – ICC in Paris, from 1987 to 1996. He also served two terms as president of the Arbitration Center of the American Chamber of Commerce in São Paulo. Dr. Carlos Nehring was fluent in English, French, Italian, and Spanish, and was a professor of arbitration at the prestigious Getúlio Vargas University, a valuable, generous, and eternal professor and friend of Jean Cioffi for 13 years.
